Use PowerAutomate to replace SharePoint List alerts

As of July 2026, automatic alerts set up in SharePoint Lists will be disabled by Microsoft. If you want to get alerted when changes are made to a SharePoint List, you now need to create your own PowerAutomate Flow. 

PowerAutomate is another MS365 app, just like Outlook, SharePoint, or OneDrive.

Knowing that more users will be transitioning to PowerAutomate, Microsoft has provided some templates that you can easily tweak to get notification emails about List changes or new submissions.  Simply click on the link that applied to your alert situation and follow the prompts to add the Flow to your account. You will need to know the SharePoint Site name and the List name in order to configure the Flow. Below are links to the Flow templates:

• Alert me for any SharePoint item or file updates
• Alert me for new SharePoint items
• Alert me when someone else updates a SharePoint item or file
• Alert me to changes when someone else updates my SharePoint items or files
