This article will detail the STAR TSP 650 II Receipt Printer features, connections, and how to load paper into the device.
Receipt Printer - STAR TSP 650 II
The receipt printer comes with several physical features to initially note:
- Power/Error/Feed indicator lights on the front of the receipt printer. The Power light will be lit and green when the printer is powered on and connected to the computer. The Error light will light up red if the printer cover is open, or there is a different error. The Feed button can be used to feed the paper roll while the printer is online.
- Power Switch. Located on the left side of the printer, this switch is used to turn the device on and off.
- Cover Open Lever. On the top right side of the device, this lever is pushed back and released in order to open the Cover. Once the Cover is open, paper can be replaced, the compartment can be checked for paper jams, dust, and debris.
Receipt Printer Wired Connections
The receipt printer makes three wired connections on the back of the device. They are as follows:
1. Interface Connector - The USB-B to USB-A cable is used to connect the receipt printer to the computer. The USB-B side connects to the receipt printer, the USB-A side connects to the computer.
The connector on the left (USB-A) goes into the register computer, the connector on the right (USB-B) goes into the receipt printer.
2. Peripheral Device Connector - Cash Drawer Cable - This connection uses a 6' telephone cord to connect the Receipt Printer to the Cash Drawer.
3. Power Inlet - This connection is used to connect the power cable to the receipt printer, it is a circular port with a three pin connection in the middle of the circle.

Note: The peripheral drive connector in the above image is not the exact model we use, as it uses a RS-232 connection instead of the USB-B connection shown below.
