The Star mC-Print2 is the receipt printer that we will be using for Lightspeed. The receipt printer will make two connections, a USB connection to the register computer and an RJ-12 (looks like a phone line) connection to the cash drawer.
Required Equipment
For the receipt printer to properly function, the following components will be required:
- Drivers downloaded and installed from the Star Micronics website
- Star mC-Print2 receipt printer
- Power Cable
- USB cable
- Cash Drawer Cable
- Paper Roll

Setting up the Receipt Printer and Cash Drawer for the Register.
- Download the 'Star Windows Software Setup EXE File driver from the Star Micronics website then open and run the file.
- Connect the receipt printer to a power source with the power cable and turn the printer on. The power cable should connect to the 'DC 24V' port on the back of the receipt printer.
- Connect the provided USB cable to the back of the receipt printer, in the port labeled with the USB symbol.

- Connect the Cash Drawer Cable to the port labeled to 'DK', also pictured above to the left of the power connection.
- Open Devices and Printers window on your computer.
- Right click on the receipt printer, and select Printer Properties > Device Settings.
- In the menu, change the 'Peripheral Unit Type' to 'Cash Drawer' and set the 'Unit 1 and 2' options to Document Bottom.
- Save these settings and test them by performing a test sale.
Performing a Test Print
Once the printer is installed you can begin to print receipts from the Lightspeed POS. To perform a test print, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to Sell > Sales History
- Select a sale to expand it.
- Choose Print Receipt.
- Choose your stores receipt template (ex. Store 107's receipt template would be ANP-107-Appomattox), you should then be taken to a print preview screen. Make sure that the Receipt Printer has been chosen in the destination field and choose to Print.
Configure Receipt Printer Settings
- In the bottom left corner of the screen, select the magnifying glass to use the Windows Search. Search for the Control Panel and open the program.
- Under Hardware and Sound, click view Devices and Printers.
- Right click the Star MCP21/20 receipt printer, select Printer Properties, then Preferences.
- Select Advanced.
- Use the Paper Size drop-down menu to select 50.8mm x 200mm.
- Click OK in the Advanced Options window.
- Click Apply, then OK in the Printing Preferences window.
- In the Printer Properties window, click on the Device Settings tab.
- Use the FRICTION drop-down menu to select 50.8mm x 200mm.
- Expand Peripheral Unit 1.
- Change Type: to Cash Drawer.
- Change Timing: to Document Top.
- Expand Peripheral Unit 2.
- Change Type to Cash Drawer.
- Change Timing: to Document Top.
- Click Apply. Select Okay if you receive a pop after selecting Apply.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Select Printing Defaults... then Advanced.
- Use the Paper Size drop-down menu to select 50.8mm x 200 mm.
- Click OK in the Advanced Options window.
- Click OK in the Printing Defaults window.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
- The receipt printer should now be ready to Print!

Printer Settings in Browser
To properly print the receipts from Chrome or Firefox, please make sure these settings are chosen in the Print Preview. After you have selected Complete Sale, enter Open or Closing amounts, or need to print a receipt from Sales history, you will need to confirm these settings in the Print Preview. Once they are set, they should not change.
- After choosing to print a receipt, or the open/close summary, select the Star MCP21/20 in the Destination field.
- Change the Layout field to the Portrait option.
- Select More settings.
- Paper size should be 50.8mm x 200mm.
- Margins should be set to None.
- Scale should be set to Default.
- Choose Print.
- The receipt should print and the cash drawer should open.

Receipt printed Blank
When printing receipts, if the receipt prints blank most likely the receipt paper roll has been inserted upside down.
- Pinch the latch on the receipt paper cover to open the tray.
- Flip the receipt paper roll.
- Close the tray.
- Try to print the receipt again, if the receipt does not print properly please check that the settings listed above in the article have been configured properly.
