Device Overview
The Taotronics barcode scanner is used to scan the barcodes of the products being sold during checkout. The device scans the barcode and enter the Item Number into the Point of Sale program. The barcode scanner comes with a scanning gun, a USB-B to USB-A cable, and an internal battery.
Setup
The setup of the three pieces (scan gun, usb cable, battery) of this device is quite simple. The battery comes connected to the scanning gun, stored in the handle. The USB cable is used to connect the scanner to the register. The USB-B end (has the rounded edge) connects to a port on the bottom of the scanner. The USB-A (rectangular end) connects to a USB port on the register setup.
Common Issues
Device not scanning? Sometimes the device makes an irregular beeping sound, and will fail to scan the Item Number into the Point of Sale program.
Device entering repeating number? Some times when attempting to scan an item, the computer continues to enter a number repeatedly, not just in the Point of Sale program, but in any other program on the computer.
Troubleshooting
If either of the above issues occur, there is a four step troubleshooting method that should be followed to resolve these issues:
- Unplug the scanner, disconnect the device from the register setup.
- Turn off the Register. Power down the computer.
- Plug the Scanner directly into the Surface Pro register, connecting to the USB port on the right side of the register computer.
- Power the Surface Pro back on, this should reload the scanners drivers and resolve the errors mentioned above.
