NOTE: Please schedule a time with a member of the IT department to install the Surface Pro register. The location will have to be closed. This process will require a member of the IT Department to setup the new register's database, HQ Client connection, the Credit Card device, etc.
Installing the Surface Pro register requires replacing the current register computer with two pieces of hardware:
- Surface Pro tablet
- Kensington SD700 Surface Pro Docking Station
Prerequisites
Before we install the Surface Pro, there are some steps we need to take on the current register.
- The daily sales for the Register need to be closed out.
- Headquarters Client needs to poll.
- The RMS database MUST be backed up onto the external Backup drive.
Setting up the new Register
The Surface Pro will make connections to power, internet, and the peripheral devices used via the docking station.
- Setup the docking station in place of the POS-X machine or current register.
- Connect the docking station power cord to the DC 15V slot.
- Connect the ethernet cord from your Cradlepoint/Router/Modem to the back of the dock for internet access. You can also connect the Surface Pro to Wifi for internet access. (Internet access is required early in the process so that the IT Rep can remote in to configure the POS software and devices)
- Insert the Surface Pro tablet into the docking station. (This will require the handle on the right hand side of the dock to be slid out to the right, drop the Surface Pro into the docking station, then close the handle by sliding it left, into the Surface Pro's charging port)
- Insert the external Backup drive into one of the dock's USB ports
- Connect the other peripheral devices used for daily operations of the store*. These devices may include:
-
- Ingenico Credit Card device
- Barcode Scanner (Honeywell or Taotronics)
- Cash Drawer and Receipt Printer
- Mouse and Keyboard
- Label Printer
- Printer
- Inventory Scanner
*If these devices were connected to the previous register via USB hub, simply connect the USB hub to the docking station with the peripheral devices still connected.

Final Step
Once all of the devices have been connected to the Surface Pro dock, and the database and other programs have been properly configured, the IT Representative will test these devices with you to ensure that everything is functioning properly. After the devices have been successfully tested, the register is ready for use and the store can open!
